Mandy Gibson
Dr Mandy Gibson has worked across the spectrum of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth suicide prevention in clinical, research, community and government settings. Mandy is a National Suicide Prevention Research Fund Postdoctoral Researcher Fellow working at the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention (AISRAP, Griffith University), . Her research focusses on strategies to reduce First Nations youth suicide mortality, protective effects of cultural connection, and community- and lived experience-led approaches to suicide prevention.
Mandy is also a practicing Psychologist with over 15 years' clinical experience, including as Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) providing risk assessment and treatment to young people experiencing suicidality, complex trauma, self-harm and other mental health challenges. She coordinated public health projects exploring First Nations' community perceptions of mental health services and barriers to accessing treatment, and delivered preventative social and emotional wellbeing programs to address the disparities between youth suicide rates and health service attendance within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
