Michael Elwan
Michael Elwan is an Accredited Social Worker, Lived Experience Advocate, and the Founder of Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs), a values-led practice transforming mental health and suicide prevention systems through cultural intelligence, compassion, and authentic lived experience leadership.
His work is profoundly shaped by his personal story: as a young carer for his father, a war veteran who became blind after a stroke; a support to his mother through her long struggle with mental illness; and ultimately, a son bereaved by suicide. Michael draws from this deeply personal loss, as well as his identity as a man from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) background, to challenge structural inequity and amplify the voices of those often unheard.
Academically, Michael holds a Master of Social Work, an MBA with Distinction, a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health, a Diploma in Psychology, and two MicroMasters in Leadership. He is currently undertaking a PhD in mental health. Professionally, he has worked across large not-for-profit organisations and currently serves as both a state and national advisor on multiple forums dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health transformation.
