Raising awareness & supporting the community:  thinking outside the box (#28)

Support for people with lived experience of suicide looks different for everyone.  Governments, healthcare providers, community programs and alternative therapies must come together to wrap a collective arm around people who need support.

Raising awareness about suicide can take many forms.  The importance, power and impact of the insights shared from people with lived experience has value that's almost immeasurable. Lived experience can be shared through structured consultations and engagements, but can also be shared far and wide through mediums that millions of us are familiar with and love: art, music, film and storytelling.

This presentation will highlight the need for a holistic, whole of government and whole of community approach to suicide prevention and supporting people with lived experience, realising support isn’t one size fits all.

It will also deep-dive into the power and impact that art, music, film and storytelling can have not only by raising awareness about ill mental-health and suicide, but how it also aides with recovery and healing, through real-life approaches that work.
