Abstract: Police across Australia play a crucial role in suicide prevention as the front line and first response to people in crisis. In 2022 and 2023, the NSW Police Force dedicated significant time and resources to deliver LivingWorks ASIST training to 10% of their workforce across the state. The purpose of this initiative was to equip both sworn officers and civilian staff with the skills to intervene with colleagues who may develop thoughts of suicide, understanding that often Police will speak to a peer or colleague before engaging in the formal support services provided by their employer. This project was funded by the NSW Health COVID Mental Health Recovery package and reached officers from every command across NSW. The presenters will outline the dissemination and uptake challenges (how can we take Police off the road for 2 days of training?) as well as outline the evaluation results of such a large scale roll out of evidence-based suicide intervention training.
